Elm Point, Minnesota

Elm Point, Minnesota, in Lake of the Woods County, Minnesota, is a small cape and a United States practical exclave, southwest of the Northwest Angle.[1] It borders Canada's province of Manitoba at the 49th parallel and is separated from the continental United States.

In addition to Elm Point, there is at least one, and possibly as many as three, other points that extend south of the 49th parallel between Elm Point and the main part of Minnesota and which would therefore be American territory. These pieces of land are all smaller than Elm Point and are unnamed. The uncertainty over their existence is due to the area being marshy with different surveys placing the shoreline at different points.[2]
